The Shalom Journey
On the 3rd of May, 1970 a local church of the Indian Pentecostal Church of God was formed when the prayer groups at Santacruz (Bethel assembly) under the leadership of Br. T.T. George and at Khar (Hebron assembly) under the leadership of Pr. C.C. George, came together in unity. In those days when the gospel outreach was very scarce in the city of Mumbai, the believers started praying and working for the same having a focus on Central Mumbai. As a result of their fervent prayers, in September 1971, God honored them with a rental centre for worship at the heart of Mumbai at St. John’s College, Dadar west, near the railway station. In spite of various trials and obstacles, God enabled the church to continue the worship at this centre till the August of 2003.
Pr. Johnson Chacko took charge of the church on May 2, 1995 and under his leadership the church bought a worship hall next to St. John’s College in the newly built ‘New Samadan building’ at the seventh floor. The same was inaugurated on the 17th of August 2003 and since then the worship and all other related church activities took wings. During these years, hundreds of people have been saved, baptized and have joined the church. Many among them are now spread in and around the suburbans of Mumbai, various parts of India and countries around the globe including the Middle East, USA, Australia, Ireland and so on.
All the servants of God who had ministered in the church over the past years have been a great blessing for the growth and unity of the church. God has blessed the church to start outstation works at Borivili, Kanjurmarg, Sakinaka and Bhayander East. By the grace of God, these works have transformed into various local churches of IPC at their respective places.
At present, people with various geographical and linguistic backgrounds gather as one at Dadar, Shalom hall, to worship the Lord, God Almighty, in spirit and in truth.
